AsiaOne Face of the Week - October 2007

Mr Kenny Lew, 27, is an engineer in the semiconductor industry.

As a process engineer in a wafer fabrication plant, Kenny says the work is challenging as he gets to do lots of experiments on improving the plant's productivity.

And keeping track of the news is a part of his job. Kenny says he is always looking out for stories on electronics companies, such as Dell and Apple.

"I need to know what are the latest technologies, what are the latest market trends, which companies are performing well or not," says Kenny.

And perhaps, his three-times-a-week workouts - hitting the gym or running - help his work as well.

"I've been exercising regularly since my army days. After I exercise, I feel good physically, and mentally I feel sharp.

"I don't fall sick so easily, as compared to in the past," he explains.

Eventually, Kenny hopes to lecture engineering in a polytechnic or university.

"To me, it's very meaningful to educate the next generation and share my knowledge with students, teaching them what I've learnt in my years of study and work."

Why you should vote for me: "Because you haven't seen the best of me, that's why you should vote."

Ms Verlyn Tan, 33, a beauty therapist, has been in the beauty and wellness line for more than 10 years.

"From young, I liked to doll people up, doing makeup for my friends," says the mother of three children aged 11, 7 and 4.

Verlyn says she used to run a beauty salon, but now runs a business from home, where she does facial treatments for clients. Her work now allows for a flexible schedule, so Verlyn can better take care of her young kids.

In her free time, Verlyn likes to listen to soothing New Age pieces to help her relax, as well as read for self-learning.

She recently read a book called "The Secret of Letting Go", which is "about conquering your fear and gaining the power to remove the blockage that holds you back from enjoying your life", she says.

And she certainly intends to enjoy her life.

"I hope to earn a lot of money so I can buy a car to zip around as well as travel around the world with my children," says Verlyn.

Why you should vote for me: "I'm real and sincere. What you see is what you get."

Game to be AsiaOne’s Face of the Month?

AsiaOne is on the lookout for two photogenic people to feature as our "Face of the Month.”

We will post two pictures each week – one male and one female.

AsiaOne roving photographers will either snap these pictures or you could send in entries as well.

At the end of each month, AsiaOne readers will be invited to vote for who they think should be the “Face of the Month.”

By year’s end, there will be 24 faces (12 males and 12 females). From these, readers will vote for the most popular face from each category, and the two will be named AsiaOne’s “Face of the Year.”

The winning couple stand to take home attractive mystery prizes, which will be announced later.
