Mr Royston Thong, 26, is entering his final year at Nanyang Technological University.

While waiting for the new term to start, the Electrical and Electronic Engineering student is spending his vacation break as an assistant network administrator at National Computer Systems. If you see him around your area during office hours, it could mean you will soon be able to enjoy free wireless broadband access.

After all, his job is to help set up this access under the Wireless@SG initiative - the government's wireless broadband programme.

Like many techie guys, Royston says he is into gadgets and software. "But I don't play computer games," he says. Instead, Royston is more interested in how to apply computer technology to improving our lives.

"I'll be specialising in infocomm communications in my final year, so knowing about these things will be a bonus."

"I don't want to become obsolete. In the IT line, you need to upgrade yourself constantly, know what is currently the trend and what is fashionable," he says.

"It links strongly to my philosophy in life. We shouldn't be in a standstill but advance everyday."

For exercise, Royston says he cycles, swims and plays tennis. "Unlike basketball and soccer, where you play in teams, I prefer the individual sports."

Ms Jasmine Tan Nurain, 23, is a training coordinator at a business training centre, where she provides support to companies conducting classes and seminars for their employees.

Her work schedule is somewhat erratic. When there is a seminar going on, she has to be at the workplace at 7am. And when a new one starts, it means working late to prepare the materials.

But she takes it all in her stride. "I love coordination work because I meet a lot of people. I love jobs which deal with communication skills," she enthuses. "I can take the pressure, as long as I can talk a lot!"

And do not be surprised to catch her at bridal fairs. Jasmine is not there to shop for a gown though. "There is still a long way to go before that!" says the single jokingly. Rather, Jasmine will be there as a part-time bridal model - something she says she has been doing since 15 years old.

The reason? "I like to look pretty and I like to have pictures taken of me," she says.

This pretty lass also likes to belt out a few numbers at the karaoke rooms. Her favourite singers are Mariah Carey and Chang Huei Mei, both known for their powerful vocals.

"If I have nothing to do, I will sing. It can express your feelings, whether you are happy or sad," says Jasmine, who hopes to further her studies and become a teacher.
