Mr Deric Yeak, 28, a project engineer, likes to dabble in areas unrelated to his work when he is out of the office.
"It will be boring if I just work and go home after that," says the sports-loving guy, who freelances as a boat driver cum wakeboarding instructor. He also likes basketball, badminton, swimming and working out at the gym.
He is not just brawn though. Deric says he's also keen on self-improvement seminars, picking up skills like effective presentation and more recently, investing.
Deric says his interest in investing arose after his father died and left him some stock counters. "I have to learn to manage them. Also, jobs now are not as secure as before, so it's good to find other sources of income."
The eventual goal is to run his own business. Deric says he intends to take part in a national business plan competition next year. The top prize should be about $30,000 and Deric hopes to win it for his own start-up.
Whatever business he starts, Deric says it will be one with a social cause and which involves young people. "I want to create more jobs for people, especially for those who are not academically inclined but who possess other skills or talents.
"And in order to help poor families to break away from the proverty cycle, we must start from the younger generation."
Sounds like a big dream? "Everything BIG starts from a small dream!" declares Deric.
Why you should vote for me: "I'm a passionate person who goes all the way to achieve his dream, and who does not merely follow the norms of society."

Ms Alison Kang, 27, an accounts manager, says 80 per cent of her time is probably spent at work.
With 12-hour workdays being the norm, her leisure time is precious. "I spend it doing the things I really like," she says.
There's golf, for example, which she does twice a week - either three hours at the range or half a day for a game. "There's always time for your interests!" says Alison.
She's also a foodie.
"I'm someone who enjoys eating. If there's nothing to do, I'll just eat," says Alison, who loves Italian and Spanish food, such as pastas, pizzas and tapas.
If you want to make an impression with her, don't offer her white wine - Alison says it gives her a headache. Red is fine though.
"I also spend a lot of my time exploring new places for food," she says, adding that Wine, Dine and Unwind on AsiaOne is one of the sites she checks out often for information.
Alison says she wants to stay happy and lighthearted. "While I maintain a hectic lifestyle, I do not put a lot of pressure on myself. I'm naturally a more positive person. But sometimes I do get stressed out, and that's when I remind myself to relax a bit."
Why you should vote for me: "Because there can only be one." |
