Mr Allen Yu, 29, has been a web designer for over five years.
Trained in interior architecture, he decided not to pursue it as a career because of the long hours the job would demand. "I realised it is not something I want to do for life," says Allen.
"It's the lifestyle, I guess. When I was doing the course, we had four major projects every year. And every time we do a project, there is no night and day." He eventually did a diploma in web multimedia.
His job now gives him time to pursue his interest in writing songs, mostly in Chinese. Occasionally, he records a demo with friends, with him on the guitar.
"I've always been fascinated by the Chinese language," says Allen, explaining his preference. "Compared to English, I feel I am able to express my feelings better in Chinese.
"Eventually, I hope what I write will be able to touch people. So hopefully, I can get it showcased somewhere."
His other interest is travelling, which provides the stimuli for his songs. "I'm more inclined to things that are natural. Basically in Singapore, you don't get to see much of the natural world.," he says.
"At the same time, travelling also expands my vision. This helps in songwriting."
Why you should vote for me: "I give my best and expect the most in all things!"

Ms Shan Soong, 29, a show producer for six years, has gone back to school. She is now a student at Youth With A Mission (YWAM).
She says it's a break from the rat race to consider the "next chapter" of her life. Her previous job as show producer was a fast-paced one, as it involved putting together TV programmes and corporate live shows. Through a friend, Shan found out about YWAM Singapore, a Christian organisation that trains people for mission work and organises regular short-term outreaches to neighbouring Asian countries.
Right now, she is enrolled in its Discipleship Training School, and attends lessons five days a week from morning until late afternoon. In about two to three weeks' time, as part of the programme, Shan will go to Chengdu and Nanzhou in China to teach schoolchildren arts and crafts.
She graduates in August, after which she plans to set up a business dealing with wedding planning and corporate gifts.
"But whatever I do, I would like to have more time for myself," she says. "I would like to have a wider horizon and mix with people of all levels, which I wasn't able to do in my last job because of the long hours."
"It's my passion," she says. "I like to interact with people on a more personal level."
Why you should vote for me: "I have a zest for a life and I'm really joyful at the moment. I have great hope for the future and I believe in humanity." |
