AsiaOne Face of the Week - August 2007

Mr Chen Weijia, 24, is an events coordinator with StarHub. If you see him, it means there are deals to be had from the info-communications firm.

Handling company road shows is what he does, and the workload can be erratic. It means long hours from morning to late at night when the shows are in full swing.

"When we reach home, it's often past 10 pm, and time for bed," says Weijia. "Most of the time it's like this."

Still, he finds time for tennis each week, and dabbles in photography on the side. "You can capture interesting things, a moment in life, and when you're 50 or 60, you can refresh your memory with the pictures."

Right now, he is experimenting with shooting human faces, says Weijia, who hopes to make something more of this hobby.

"To be honest, I'm saving money to do further studies in photography," he lets on.

Fortunately, he has some friends who are professional photographers, so "maybe I'll start off by asking them to teach me".

Why you should vote for me: "Because I want to win the prize for my girlfriend!"

Ms Veron Ann Lincoln, 24, a nurse in a local hospital, says she was partly inspired to enter the profession by mum's stories of grandma, who was a midwife.

"My mother was always telling me how my grandmother helped women who were about to give birth, how she cooked for them during their confinement months without getting any money in return," says Veron.

She has been a nurse for six years now. Next year, Veron hopes to do an advanced diploma in a nursing-related discipline so that she can handle diabetic patients in future.

"I'm diabetic myself. I want to inspire people to control their diabetes through exercise and by controlling their diet in a smart way," she explains.

Veron herself, for example, still eats chocolate - just a small bar every few months. For exercise, she heads to the gym these days. She used to play football and dance ballet and hip hop.

She has to drop dancing because of time constraints, but she might pick it again later.

"Dancing is a kind of expression. It helps to ease your mind and lessen your stress and burden," says Veron.

Why you should vote for me: "Vote for me as you know you can be sweetened up by me!"

Game to be AsiaOne’s Face of the Month?

AsiaOne is on the lookout for two photogenic people to feature as our "Face of the Month.”

We will post two pictures each week – one male and one female.

AsiaOne roving photographers will either snap these pictures or you could send in entries as well.

At the end of each month, AsiaOne readers will be invited to vote for who they think should be the “Face of the Month.”

By year’s end, there will be 24 faces (12 males and 12 females). From these, readers will vote for the most popular face from each category, and the two will be named AsiaOne’s “Face of the Year.”

The winning couple stand to take home attractive mystery prizes, which will be announced later.

Here's how you can take part:
