Mr Tommy Cheng, 24, a final-year Social Work student at the National University of Singapore, likes working with children as he finds it fulfilling and meaningful.
It is also his way of giving back to the community.
He recently worked with the St Andrew's Autism Centre as part of his attachment.
"I found it fulfilling", said Tommy. "It's like going into a different culture. I had to adjust and adapt to the patients needs.
"Patience is required because they understand things differently from us. You may need to repeat something frequently before they can get it."
Tommy has been taking on ad-hoc jobs to earn some pocket money. Past jobs include stints at skincare product outlets like Kehl's and Biotherm, so ladies take note: this is a guy who knows his moisturisers and sunscreens.
After he graduates, Tommy plans to become a Primary school teacher.
"Teachers are at the "front line of reaching out to teens and children and they serve as an important role model," he said of his career choice.
"I want to do something that is more meaningful then just earning money," added Tommy. "I feel blessed, so I should be giving back."

Ms Elfa Ynacis, 30, an executive assistant, used to work in Dubai as a flight stewardess for Emirates Airlines.
It was there that she met her husband, who is currently an airline cabin crew. Elfa stopped flying and returned to Singapore after she became pregnant. Her son, Elbern, is now 30 months old, and he will soon have a sibling as mom is expecting her second child.
She may even have a third baby.
"I'm an only child and I know how lonely it gets, so I refuse to have just one kid," said Elfa.
Despite the demands of raising a young child, Elfa said she has heaps of fun with his son, who she brings along in everything she does. "He's the excess baggage I carry with me all the time!" she quipped.
Elsa loves salsa, which she started on about 12 years ago. She's working hard at it to "take it to an advance level."
As for her children, her long-term goal is simple. "I want my children to be healthy and live well."
