Thai PM to go to people for decision
Sep 05, 2008
The embattled prime minister has again rejected calls to quit and announced plans to hold a national referendum to defuse the crisis.
The referendum could take place by early October if the Senate quickly endorses a bill to organise the vote. It comes two days after a state of emergency was declared banning gatherings of more than five people. But the thousands of protesters camped out at Government House in Bangkok show no sign of moving on.
