Colombia's President Alvaro Uribe confirmed that a Colombian intelligence officer displayed the Red Cross emblem during the military's July 2nd rescue of Ingrid Betancourt and 14 others.

The officer confessed his mistake saying he was very nervous and afraid for his life when he saw the many guerrillas as his helicopter landed.
