Thousands of Catholic pilgrims converge on Sydney ahead of Pope Benedict's arrival for a key religious festival known as World Youth Day.

Organizers expect the festival to draw more than 500,000 young Catholics to Sydney for six days of events. The pope is to spend 10 days in Australia, the longest foreign trip of his papacy.
